MarkAny is a web converter with one job: take the documents you already have and turn them into clean Markdown, or take Markdown and turn it into a document someone else can open. It sits in the narrow gap between a general-purpose file converter, which rarely understands headings and tables, and a developer’s command-line toolchain, which most people will never install.

MarkAny reached us as a developer submission. Everything below was checked against the product’s own pages at the time of this review (October 2026), not copied from the submission note.

Files in, Markdown out

The main converter accepts PDF, Word (DOC and DOCX), Excel, PowerPoint, JPG, PNG and WebP images, HTML and EPUB, and there is a separate box for pasting plain or rich text copied from Word, Google Docs or a web page. You can add up to five files of one type at a time, each up to 50 MB and 250 MB in total, and two conversions run at once.

The result is a Markdown file you can preview, copy or download. Headings, lists, tables, links and images are mapped to their Markdown equivalents when the source file exposes them. When a result includes extracted images, you can download a ZIP that keeps the Markdown and the image folders together, with relative paths intact.

Scanned PDFs and images go through OCR automatically. There is no language menu and no setting to switch on, which is convenient and also means you cannot tell it what language to expect.

The reverse direction is the less obvious half

MarkAny also exports Markdown to DOCX, PDF, HTML, PNG, JPG, WebP, EPUB, PPTX and XLSX. You can paste Markdown, open a .md file, import a ZIP with its images, or load a public file link. According to the site, this half runs in your own browser tab rather than on its conversion servers, which matters for the privacy question below. Exports carry no MarkAny branding, and for Word and PDF you can pick a font style and a colour theme.

In practice that makes it a quick way to draft in Markdown and hand a Word file to a colleague who has never heard of Markdown, or to turn a README into a slide deck for a meeting.

What it admits it gets wrong

We liked that the product says this itself. Multi-column pages, text boxes, merged cells, diagrams and scanned tables may need manual correction, and a status of “Completed” means processing finished, not that the output is accurate. The site tells you to check OCR text, table structure, heading levels and reading order before you reuse anything.

That matches what a converter like this can realistically do. Treat the output as a strong first draft, especially for scans, and keep the original file beside it.

Where your files go

File-to-Markdown conversion uploads your file to MarkAny’s cloud storage and conversion infrastructure. At review time the site publishes no guaranteed deletion period, and its privacy page says a public privacy contact is not available yet. Its own advice is not to upload confidential, sensitive or regulated material, and we would follow it. A contract, a medical record or a client spreadsheet is the wrong thing to test with.

What it costs

At review time the pricing page offers a free plan with 5 conversions when you create an account, counted across both directions. Pro is listed at $9 a month, or $49 billed yearly, which the page shows as about $4.10 a month. Pro removes the conversion limit in both directions and keeps the same limits on file size and batch size. The page also mentions one-off credit packs as coming later. Prices can change, so confirm on the pricing page before you subscribe.

Arabic support

MarkAny has an Arabic version of its site at markany.ai/ar, laid out right to left, and Arabic is one of more than twenty interface languages. At review time the Arabic page was only partly translated: labels such as “Pricing” and “5 free conversions” were still in English.

The more important question for Arabic readers is OCR, and there the site is silent. It says OCR is automatic with no language selection, but it publishes nothing about Arabic accuracy, and we did not benchmark it. If your documents are Arabic scans, convert one representative page first and read the result closely before you commit to a batch.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

It suits writers and developers who keep notes, documentation or a blog in Markdown and need to bring old Word, PDF or HTML files into it. It also suits people preparing text for AI tools, since clean Markdown is easier for a model to read than a raw PDF. And it suits anyone who writes in Markdown but has to deliver Word or PDF.

Look elsewhere if your files are confidential, if they are heavily laid-out Arabic scans, or if you need a guaranteed deletion policy or an API. We found no mention of an API at review time. For occasional use, the five free conversions are enough to decide whether the output quality works for your documents.
